FINISHED!!!

END OF BLOG

Evaluation!

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Well the conventions of a music magazine are things to do with music obviously, but in a music magazine there would be things like free posters of bands and members of bands found somewhere in the magazine, there would be something on the front cover to tell you there will be free gifts included with the magazine. Interviews would also be a key ingredient in a music magazine because bands and music artist have to be interviewed to see where they are in their musical career, if they think they're sucessful, are they bringing out any new albums, usually just general information about themselves and their band members. Front covers are one of the most important parts of the music magazine probably becauase the front cover is the first part people will see, so it will have to have something on there to attract them to read this magazine. The front cover will have to include obviously whats going to be in the magazine, big storys, free gifts, general things but not trying to give them to much information because they'll have to buy the magazine to find out the full story and to get everything out of the magazine itself. The double page spreads that i've seen are usually one big picture on one side them a lot of information or content on the following page, contents pages on the other hand are usually collums with all the things that are going to be included in the magazine put into subheadings with some text underneath it, explaining what the subheading is advertising. On my contents i have put my headings into one collum to keep it tidy and easy to read, however i have not put text underneath to explain what the heading is talking about because of spacing and to make people want to read the articals even more. I've done a typical double page spread, one large picture on the one side and the text on the following page.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
The social group that i have represented is rock music fans and i think the name for my magazine represents this well enough, as well as some of the pictures i have used, such as the two people on my front cover, they both look like two people who would be interested in rock music, but they're both members of a rock band for my magazine so they're obviously interested in rock music, also the way they dress would suggest that rock would be their preferred choice of music over other genres.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The magazine 'Metal Hammer' is a magazine which is like mine and is already on the shelves, in a sence my magazine is very similar to Metal Hammer but mine is cheaper and comes about weekly as the Metal Hammer magazine comes out monthly. The content inside the magazine would be similar to but that shouldn't be a problem. I think the company should distribute my magazine because metal fans would get weekly magazines too read instead of having to wait a month for the next issue of Metal Hammer.

• Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for my magazine would generally be teenagers up to middle aged adults that are interested in heavy metal music.

• How did you attract/address your audience?

In my magazine i have included a competition which allows you to win an amazing guitar or bass guitar every week, guitar lovers would be sure to enter this competition to try get their hands on one of the guitars, there would be an entry fee, but it's not very expensive so anyone could enter the competition. I've included an interview with a new heavy metal band which has resently made it into the music industry and also i have added another interview with a band called Avenged Sevenfold, who not that long ago lost their drummer who died with no warning, to see how they're holding up and to see what they've done with their musical career since the death of their drummer/best friend. There would be a lot of people who are intreseted to know whats happening in Avenged Sevenfolds life since the REV has been gone.

• What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Throughout my time creating this music magazine i have learnt how to use publisher a lot better than when i created my student magazine, also this is my first time making a blog so it's been a new experience doing this finally i know where and how to create polls now so in the future if i ever need to make a poll i know where to make one.

• Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
I would have to make my final magazine pieces look more professional and maybe use a different software other than publisher which really limits what you can do with your magazine.

Final Double Page Spread

Textural Analysis: DPS

This is a double page spread taken out of the Kerrang magazine, there isn't really much to this page other than an extremly large picture of Green Day and a lot to do with them, talking about their albums and that they should be taken to serious. The little box 'Back Track' names three of their well known songs, which if people are new to green day then they can check these songs out to if they're any good.

Textual Analysis: Contents page

This is the contents page for the magazine kerrang. It is a typical kerrang contents, seeing though near enough all of the magazines have the same contents layout. You have the same masthead so you know what magazine your reading, the subheadings are in collums. Also next the the masthead saying kerrang, it says this week, this could tell the reader that the magazine comes out weekly. There is a picture of Marilyn Manson on the contents page with his name underneath it, so this could tell the reader that there is something in the magazine that is to do with marilyn mason. There is also little notices at the bottom of the contents page which tell you what else you can expect to find inside this magazine such as posters and an advertisment for a subcription to kerrang magazing, along with the number you can call to get this.

The next contents page is from Q magazine, this contents page has a much cleaner layout, but looks kind of bland compared to the Kerrang contents page. There is a huge picture of a band which means theres going to be an artical on them somewhere in the magazine and in the text box underneath it says what number page you can find them. There is a section that is an 'Oasis Special' which would mean that that section would be about the band Oasis. The subheadings in the contents are all layed out in one tidy collum with not much colour, but has quite a bit of writing under them to explain what each of the headings are about.

Textual Analysis : Front covers

This magazine is called Kerrang! It is a very well known magazine so the fact that the masthead is obstructed by the photo of the band called Avenged Sevenfold, doesn't really matter because people will know what the name of the magazine is. The title is also cracked and shattered like it's a pane of glass, which would go with the saying 'Life is Loud'. The huge writing in the middle of the cover draws the audiences eye to it and it goes with the picture because it's the name of the band and again it will tell the reader that there is something in the magazine that will involve Avenged Sevenfold.

The fact that theres the picture of Avenged Sevenfold on the front of the magazine, signifies that there will be something to do to do with the band in the magazine, such as interviews or a story on how they started off in the music world. There is also little sub-headings, which have the bands Red Hot Chili Peppers, which would be an interview with the lead singer on their 'INTENSE NEW ALBUM' which RHCP fans would be interested in. Also there is the Lostprophets and what i would of thought to be another interview on how to survive rock 'n' roll. Finally there is something to tell you that there is '25 metal anthems you must own' which would persuade the audience of this magazine to go look up these songs and maybe even buy them.

Near the bottom of the front cover, there is a title saying that there is free posters from 2 bands and more. People that are fans of these bands would probably collect these posters and would like to see what else is included in the magazine that is free.

This magazine is called Metal Hammer and the name of he band 'Slipknot' is where the masthead would usually be. This could confuse a new time buyer into thinking that this magazine is a slipknot magazine. This is actually a Slipknot special of the Metal Hammer magazine and Metal Hammer fans that would buy it everytime it was realised, would know that it's Metal Hammer. In the centre of the page in front of the band theres something telling the buyer that theres a story about the 'Worlds Sickest Band' so this would automatically tell you that it would be about slipknot, they're also a well know band otherwise they probably wouldn't have made a Slipknot special of this magazine.

At the top if the page in the banner, it's advertising GIANT posters which are free,  my guess would be that the posters could be of Slipknot, also they're giving away FREE stickers, which fans of slipknot could use to stick on all sorts of things.
To the right hand side of the front covers, there is something to say that one of the band members is going to talk through their past albums and what he thinks of them. At the bottom of the page there is a short list of 3 bands which are also going to be included in the magazine, but then it says plus the sickest band ever, the audience would be interested to see who the 'sickest band ever' would be, because i'm sure they would all have their own opinions which band it could be.

This magazine is called Q, it is a well known magazine that would be for the slightly older teenagers and into the early/late20's. The title of the magazine is just a Q in a red block which stands out from the rest of the magazine which is mostly dark colours such as greys and black. The main cover line says the band Kasabian is on fire, probably they're having a successful year so they use the frase they're on fire, or it could be a reference from one of their songs. The strapline at the top of the magazine, says the magazine is the best music magazine in the world, this is at the top of every Q magazine, it would be a part of it's brand identity, also the guitar that one of the band members is holding is on fire. To be honest the front of this magazine actually quite plane, but theres only a few things which stand out, such as the title and the banner at the bottom.
